It features gallery spaces showcasing the town's history from the Iron Age to the present day, and three historical gardens set across two acres. The museum has over 40,000 artefacts, mostly acquired by public donation.

- The museum is on one level and is completely wheelchair accessible. The gardens are suitable for wheelchair visitors, however some pathways in the gardens are shingle surfaced.
