The experience
About this day out
Axminster Heritage Centre is an accredited independent museum and charity that opened in April 2019 in the Georgian carpet factory built by Thomas Whitty. The museum tells 'The Story of Axminster' and local history through modern interactive displays, including a 1769 Whitty carpet and an original 18th century loom compared with a 1930s Crabtree loom. At the rear is the Dye House and garden with plants that would have been used for dying the wool in Thomas Whitty's day.
