The experience

About this day out

Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is a rural scythe and steelworks dating back to the 1700s, part of the industry that earned Sheffield its reputation as the Steel City. Visitors can see the last complete surviving crucible steel furnace in the UK, along with the waterwheels, tilt forge, grinding hull and steam engine, as well as the Manager's House, Worker's Cottage and Counting House. The site also offers a new Welcome Hub and shop, a café, and a timber-framed play area for children.
